PVGIS: Photovoltaic Geographic Information System

PVGIS 6

The JRC’s Photovoltaic Geographical Information System (PVGIS) provides free information on solar radiation and photovoltaic system performance for any location in the world, except the North and South Poles. This new user interface offers an easy way to access the latest version, called PVGIS 6. PVGIS 6 includes:

  • A new API web service PVGIS6 API interface.
  • A new backend Python code (a public version is available on the Commission’s Gitlab EC CODE)
  • The PVGIS dataset covering 2013-2024. This includes hourly data for solar radiation and the other relevant meteorological parameters (temperature, wind speed, etc.), as well as a digital elevation and horizon data. This dataset is held on JRC servers and is essentially the same as for PVGIS 5.3 but with an updated format and handling process.

PVGIS 6 is currently released in beta version, so expect changes and improvements!
